@  Erik : (23 May 2013 - 03:47 AM) Isnt he that chubby HW?
@  saad : (23 May 2013 - 03:43 AM) Can this Andy Ruiz fight?  I've never seen him.  In against Joe Hanks in July.
@  saad : (23 May 2013 - 03:41 AM) I agree.  I hope Malik Scott doesn't beat the shit out of a woman and cancel this one as well
@  Erik : (23 May 2013 - 03:40 AM) Probably better fight than the Wilder fight, but Wilder fight would be more interesting.
@  saad : (23 May 2013 - 03:39 AM) Not a bad fight
@  saad : (23 May 2013 - 03:39 AM) Chisora vs. Malik Scott now?

@  DaveMurphy : (23 May 2013 - 01:13 AM) Scott Kazmir has seen better times too, he needs to shape up.
@  Erik : (23 May 2013 - 01:12 AM) Only good thing is both pithcing prospects have sucked big time. But yeah i hate the trade
@  DaveMurphy : (23 May 2013 - 01:12 AM) I like McAllister, but he doesn't seem to get enough run support when he pitchs.
@  DaveMurphy : (23 May 2013 - 01:10 AM) Yeah, I still hate him being there,  dumbest trade the Indians have made, they gave up prospects for a high ERA guy (and it wasn't just because he was pitching in Denver).
@  Erik : (23 May 2013 - 01:08 AM) Ubalbo is streaky, gort rocked tonight
@  DaveMurphy : (23 May 2013 - 01:07 AM) We'll see how their pitching holds out,  nice to see Justin Masterson back to form.
@  JohnnyGaetano : (23 May 2013 - 01:05 AM) I know they are both in first place. just testing you haha.
@  Erik : (23 May 2013 - 01:02 AM) Although after tonight Tribe may be tied

Randall Bailey-Devon Alexander Deal is Reached For 9/8

Posted by: Mitch Abramson on 6/25/2012 .

Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, has agreed to terms on a fight between newly minted IBF welterweight champ Randall Bailey and Devon Alexander, to headline a Showtime card on Sept. 8, though no venue has been determined, Schaefer told BoxingScene.com on Monday. Bailey's promoter, Lou DiBella mentioned the bout was in the works over the weekend.
Bailey, 37, decked Mike Jones twice in their June 9 fight, finishing him off with a wicked uppercut in the 11th round of a scheduled 12-rounder for the vacant IBF title. Bailey had waited by his own account two years for an opportunity to challenge for the title as the IBF mandatory.
Now, he gets a chance to face a former junior welterweight champion in Alexander in yet another victory lap for this fight veteran many wrote off after he was stopped by Juan Urango in 2009. For his part, Alexander has won two straight over top opposition since dropping a bout to Tim Bradley last year, beating Marcos Maidana and squeaking by Lucas Matthysse in February. Alexander will be rising to welterweight to challenge Bailey after campaigning for most of his career at 140.
“We have agreed on the terms and it’s going to be a terrific fight,” Schaefer told BoxingScene.com. “You always have a good fight when it involves Randall Bailey. He's one veteran you can't turn your back on, and it's a great opportunity for Devon.”

I like the fight although I think that Alexander will run for his life and Bailey may have trouble hitting him. It will all depend on Bailey's work rate. If he works as he did in the Jones fight, he loses a lopsided decision, if he follows Mattyse's gameplan in fighting Alexander he may land a big bomb and then it will be night night for yet another overrated St. Louis boxer.

I think at this stage of his career Bailey kinda has to pace himself, just like the Jones fight. So i doubt we see him with a Matthysse type performance. I'm thinking same strategy as the Jones fight hope to get to second half and maybe lull him to sleep a little bit then land a big bomb

At 40-years-old, Bailey's simply not going to outbox ANYBODY in the Top 20, he's reduced to landing the big bomb and in most cases a Hail Mary late in the fight after he finally tracks the guy down. My guess is that Alexander will be even more difficult to catch than was Jones, who didn't exactly fight a masterful fight himself but still had Randall on the backstep. Devon SHOULD be able to pile up points................it's just a matter of whether that pile is stacked at the finish line or at the scene of the crash (should Bailey eventually connect) :)

I think Devon will win this, but I love the guillotine hanging above his head the whole time... prefight... interviews... during fight... "What happens when Bailey connects with my chin??" lol
Bailey is a rare breed and just knowing he might drop the younger guys any second makes this fight worth watching.

As long as Devon doesn't get hit with the right he should win. The only thing that makes the fight exciting is the fact Devon will be in harms way all night because he is a south paw.

I absoluetly, positively, 100% disagree with your assessment of Devon Alexander. IMO, he's one of the better fighters out there, and I think he's finally growing into his own. He was rushed in against the likes of Bradley, Kotelnik, Matthysse. But, he porved how good he really is in wins over Witter, Urango, and recently against Maidana. I truly believe he'll develop into a very good fighter and think he'll not only beat Bailey, he'll dominate Bailey.

Guess I'm somewhere in the middle of Ozzy and Chris. I dont think Alexander is elite level but he has some solid skills. I think he should be able to outbox and stay away from Bailey. But still the chance of a hard hitting welter landing on Alexander makes this interesting.

Urango is a trial horse, Witter is past his prime and him staying in England helped him hide during his prime and Maidana is moving toward being a trial horse. Until he beats someone of note, I will have his performances against Kotelnik, Matthysse and Bradley to look at. Alexander had the boxing pedigree to outclass Bailey but he also has the ability to look ordinary and timid. If that combination is present against Bailey, he will be sleeping before the final bell.

Bailey will have to land the knockout shot, or he gets knocked out in my opinion. Bailey doesn't want the fight in Missouri, will that hurt the deal? We have to wait and see.

I highly doubt Bailey knocks Alexander out, I think it's a mismatch at this stage of their careers. I think Alexander is a good fighter, not elite but he's better than Jones IMO. I think Baileys last win against Jones was his last hurrah, especially against younger fighters with a decent skill set. I just don't think Bailey is going to be able to catch Alexander and take him out, it will be a one sided fight and I predict a late TKO win for Alexander.

I'd be surprised if Bailey lands a finishing blow on Alexander, who's going to be too fast for him most of the night..............and also extra cautious. Of course it's that possibility of a Hail Mary that will keep us interested till the final Bell, but like you, I kind of have a feeling that Randall used up his last hurrah, and I also don't expect Devon to be as foolish as Jones was, not just in getting caught but also agreeing to the eight-ounce gloves. Trust me, Devon will outpoint him wearing the tens.

I'm still not sure what happened with Jones-Bailey LOL! We were turning to the game...and when he turned back the fight was over. Not to sway the convo, but what did Bailey do?!
Did he land a lucky shot? Is MJ chinny? was it a shot he didnt see coming?

I'd like to think that Urango hit Devon pretty good, so he has an okay chin so far. Is it the lulling that Bailey did to beat MJ and now hopes to do with Devon? I think Devon can win a boring points win as the first 4 or so rounds with Jones-Bailey was a snoozer. Avoid the right hand and Baily is a limited dude.

I don't think it was really a lucky shot by Bailey.. I personally think Jones got too comfortable in there and got a little lazy trying to cruise to the decision. I think it had a little to do with Jones being chinny, but Bailey hits like a mule and I think the shot that took Jones out would have done some damage to just about anyone he hit like that. I think it had more to do with Jones getting too comfortable and relaxed in the later rounds than it did with anything else.

The new talent hasn't been living up to expecations. Silkah gets stopped, now Jones.

Cunningham is a decent trainer and should have Devon prepared as best as he knows how.Taking a Bailey right hand is something Cunningham can' prepare Devon for, though...

We forget Alexander took Mathysse' and Maidana's punches and didn't seem effected by them. I think Alexander has enough of a chin to handle Bailey.
