Prescott, Andrade Headline Friday Night Fights

By Victoria “Vicky” Villa

On Friday, April 22nd, ESPN’s Friday Night Fights will be airing their show live from the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT.  In the main event, Breidis “Khanqueror” Prescott (23-2, 19 KOs) takes on Bayan Jargal (15-1, 10 KOs) in a very competitive Light Welterweight match up.

As his new nickname states, “Khanqueror” Prescott is the only man to have beaten Amir “King” Khan via a brutal 1st Round KO, but his career has fizzled ever since pulling that huge upset going 3-2 versus very average opposition.  He has been openly calling out Khan for a rematch but his challenge has gone unanswered.  Winning this fight represents possibly another chance at a rematch against Khan or a title fight down the road.

Bayan Jargal is a native of Mongolia and represented his country at the 2004 World Games.  He has only loss as a pro, a very close, controversial split decision to Steve Chambers (23-1-1) in the undercard of Martinez/Williams 2.  Those present at the fight saw Jargal winning this fight but two of the judges disagreed.  Prescott is probably the best opponent Jargal has faced in his young career, and winning this fight is key to getting some recognition in the division.

On April 22, Prescott and Jargal have a chance to display their talents in the main event, and put the Light Welterweight division on notice.  A win can possibly put their name in the mix of one of the most loaded divisions in boxing.

DEMETRIUS ANDRADE VS. OMAR BELL
Demetrius Andrade (12-0, 8 KOs) makes yet another appearance at Friday Night Fights as he takes on Omar Bell (8-1, 5 KOs) in an eight round Jr. Middleweight showdown.

Andrade is coming off a dominating eight round unanimous decision over another once beaten prospect Alberto Herrera (7-1-1) on ESPN in his last fight.  As for Bell, he is coming off a win against previously undefeated Quinton Willis.

Also seeing action on the card, will be up and coming heavyweight prospect, Joe “The Future” Hanks (15-0, 10 KOs) taking on Terrell “The Baby Bull” Nelson (8-11, 5KO’s) in a six round heavyweight special attraction.

Making his pro-debut on the card will be Kevin Rooney Jr. as he takes on Philadelphia’s David Navarro in a four round jr. middleweight contest.

In a battle of unbeaten middleweights Providence, Rhode Island’s Thomas Falowo (2-0, 2 KOs) squares off against Derrick Evans (1-0, 1 KO) over four scheduled rounds.

Rounding out the card is Yonkers, New York’s, Nick Lavin (1-0, 1KO) as he takes on pro-debuting Kevin Cobbs in a four round cruiserweight match-up.
